Crashed and Burned - The Book
On the evening of 10th December 2016, my 14-year-old daughter Hannah, lost her life. Despite the best efforts of myself and the emergency responders that followed, she was not for saving.
My life would never be the same again – the events of that evening and those days, weeks, months and years that followed would go on to affect the rest of all of my life, and the lives of those closest to me.
Crashed and Burned is the brutal story of that night, and the subsequent profound impact that trauma and complex PTSD had on me as a grieving father and human being.
Unequivocal evidence of targeted online sexual grooming of my daughter was ignored by the authorities and I was left to right a wrong.
In doing so, I broke the law, and found myself being investigated without any consideration of my genuine motive. Intrusive and inaccurate press attention ensured that my ostracising from society and immediate termination of a 45 year career followed, even before I had a chance to defend myself in court.
The book is an uncomfortable read - deliberately so. My own fall from grace has highlighted (to me, anyway) the scourge of the internet and the harm it, in terms of social media and the huge number of child abuse images contained therein, can cause. This book also shines a light on these image as well as sexual grooming. These activities are on a global scale with millions of images being shared by millions of sharers, and the grooming is happening everywhere - even in a town or village near you.
I hope this is the most uncomfortable book you ever read.

Crashed and Burned - Lessons learned from a fall from grace is an honest, hard-hitting presentation by Andy Cubin, a high-achieving former military and civilian pilot, that addresses various critical and sensitive topics related to modern life, including the challenges faced by both children and adults. This candid discussion, based on his personal experiences, touches on subjects such as loss, grief, stress, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), the dangers of the open internet, online grooming, artificial intelligence, the criminal justice system, the police, the press, and more.
The talk issues clear warnings about the potential risks and pitfalls of our technologically advanced and social media-driven society, highlighting the inconceivable consequences of ignorance and vulnerability.
This presentation is available live nationwide and is intended for an adult audience over the age of 18, due to the mature and potentially distressing content it covers.
It is also a non-profit delivery and I ask that only travelling and accommodation expenses are covered. Any additional revenue will be donated directly to PTSD UK and Combat Stress.
